ABOUT EPS

WHAT IS EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE (EPS)?

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is composed of 98% air making it a light weight shipping solution while providing superior cushioning and thermal insulating performance. EPS does not absorb moisture, water or most oils.  EPS is resistant to growth of bacteria and mold.  It is non-toxic.

EPS ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is earth friendly and 100% recyclable. Steam is used it the manufacturing process of EPS resulting in very little water usage. Water run-off from the machine cycle gets reused for other cycles. Waste from the EPS manufacturing process is minimal. What scrap is generated during this process can be reground and recycled back into the production of foam products. Scrap can also be used as loose filler for packaging (a better cushion and insulator than packaging peanuts.

The manufacturing process of EPS foam uses no HCFCs (hydrochlorofluorocarbon) or CFCs (chlorofluorocarbon), which can cause damage to our ozone layer. EPS is not biodegradable and, therefore, waste does not break down into toxic compounds or other hazardous materials allowing it to be easily recovered without causing damaging effects to our land or water systems.
